About the Artist
“My artistic mission is to empower and inspire. I hope my work can encourage viewers to (re)consider relationships and connections within their own ecosystems and cultural systems.”
From a young age, Karla Houser has used painting as a way of exploring and documenting her experiences and surroundings.
Over the years she has honed a distinct style of minimal realism, marked by a deliberate use of colour and composition. Her work captures striking yet familiar perspectives, exploring themes of duality, connection and transformation.
Karla’s artistic journey is a fusion of experiences and inspirations. Hailing from Windsor, Ontario, she has also resided in Amsterdam, Osaka, and Toronto while evolving her artistic voice, and sharing creative output through painting, collage, printmaking, and DJing.
Houser started showing work in Canada in 2019, and has since participated in a number of juried shows and solo exhibitions. Her paintings belong in personal collections in both Japan and Canada.
Karla currently works out of her home studio in Huntsville, Canada, where she lives with her husband and their feline companion.
